Prosecutors and defense attorneys in the double capital murder case against Jorge Gutierrez told jurors today that surveillance cameras at a Northeast Austin strip club will respectively convict and exonerate Gutierrez (below).
“This case is unusual,” said Travis County Assistant District Attorney Mark Pryor during opening statements before District Judge Mike Lynch. “The whole thing is caught on tape. … That will be our main evidence.”
Defense attorney Leonard Martinez, however, said that the videotape will show that Gutierrez. 30, was attacked first and fired his gun in self-defense.
Step-brothers Jose Hernandez, 24, and Arturo Rodriguez. 26, were shot outside the Pink Monkey Cabaret in late May 2010. Hernandez died at the scene and Rodriguez died later at a hospital.
